How My Children Managed To Put Viagra Onto My Shopping List!

Like many households across the country, we own a voice-activated smart speaker, which my children, 9 and 12, both love ...

So, much so, we have several and can often find one singing out someone's favourite music, another playing a radio station while a third is asking questions from a quiz. We have them linked and can talk to one another in the house without shouting and even contact other family members outside our home, although we do feel rather odd talking at the wall.

"We even use them to turn on our lights and wake us up in the morning!"

Recently I've been told that we can book an Uber directly by talking to our smart speaker and saying when we want to be collected (assuming that we have the relevant app linked). We use them to read recipes, give us instructions, create reminders and add things to our shopping lists.

Recently we had a family friend visit and my children in their excitement wanted to show off our smart speaker giving them instruction after instruction. Our speaker obliged and answered them, often starting one task before fully completing less than half a minute of the previous one.

"And then we came to the shopping list!"

We said, "Alexa, read out my shopping list", and came the reply, "On your shopping list there are five items they are: This, and that, and Viagra!". How clever is that? Woah! Wait! That's embarrassing ... both for my friend who had come for a visit, as well as us! And what if I had enabled the automatic ordering of the shopping? I dread to think.

So, there we were analysing how did this happen. Running a business is has many similarities. Using apps to help with a variety of functions like timesheets or record mileage for reimbursement claims, photographing expense receipts, Bank accounts can be linked ...all good time-saving functions; labour-saving functions ... smarter functions! Yes, this is how you run your business ... smarter instead of harder!

With modern technology, many applications and smart technology can help with streamlining and automating functions to save time, but it doesn't mean that you have to go 'all in'? Why not look at choosing one application that could help and save time, and just using the features that you are comfortable with?

"Will I ever activate Alexa's automatic ordering? I'll never say never, but at the moment that's a step too far for me!"
