The United Kingdom has around 5.2 million small businesses (defined as having less than 50 employees) which is an increase of 760,000 since 2010. This goes to show how many people have taken the plunge and started up in business in the last five years!
Whilst some of these businesses will be one-man-bands, small business as a whole provide about 48% of all the jobs and clearly some of these businesses will go on to bigger and better things in future.
"Technology really can help
make a difference!"
There are the obvious differences brought about by technology: email marketing, social media, online stores are just a few examples. More importantly, the Internet means you can work from anywhere you like and has opened up your business horizon to include the entire world.
Getting financial investment when starting a business is also easier. Often you don't need to have as much up-front investment and technology doesn't have to be expensive anymore.
Secondly, there are more ways for startup businesses to access funds - Crowdfunding, for example. The government can also help in various ways, and the Startup Loans Company can provide funding and there is also lots of general online advice available.
A great way to start planning for any business startup is to speak to a chartered accountant. Have a free consultation and get some great advice to help get you started.
