Of course, we all have to pay our fair share of taxes. Even if we don't like paying for politicians, our taxes are important to the country ...

After all, we have to pay toward our Police, Doctors, Schools, Defence forces, and a whole raft of other services. But I also feel strongly that no one should pay more than their fair share of tax.

If you run a business, then part of your job is to keep your costs, including your tax bill, under control. Are you working within the parameters of the rules to do the right things for your business?

As an individual, you need to do what you can to take advantage of as many of the tax breaks as you can; there aren't that many after all!

So, how can you check you aren't paying too much tax? The simple answer is to ask your accountant, but not all accountants are fully versed in ways to help you pay less tax! You can go on courses to learn about taxes, but it can take years to gain that necessary knowledge!

Maybe you can let me help you? We have a checklist of things to look at to see if we can help you to pay less tax, either now or in the future. 71 questions in total; 20 questions for you to go through as an individual and another 51 questions if you run a business.

"Would you like to know more?"

If you'd like to review your own tax positions and let us suggest ways you could be paying less, then do give me a call on 01234 752 566 or click here to ping me an email and let's see how I can help you.

Until next time ...

More about Jonathan Vowles ...

I've been an accountant in and for business since 1987 and have a wide experience of consultancy, audit, accounts, taxation and wealth planning work from individuals and small businesses to multinational corporations and charities.

My eclectic interests in growing and developing business span a number of areas, which can be summarised as strategic business advice and tax saving advice.

I have worked with the Chamber of Commerce to deliver courses for people about starting up in business and have lectured about tax for a major accountancy practice and for Milton Keynes College.

I relax by reading fiction and by getting away from the office in a campervan.
